"Self" was created as both a creative and technical exercise built around the actor’s original writing and voiceover narration. Through nostalgic reflections on childhood, curiosity, and growing older, the film explores the gradual loss of wonder that can come with adulthood, and the desire to reconnect with the version of yourself that once experienced life more freely.
The project also served as my first opportunity to properly test the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Full Frame. Throughout production, I focused heavily on refining my cinematography skills, experimenting with natural lighting, framing, movement, and environmental storytelling to create a quiet and intimate atmosphere.
The goal was to create an image that felt soft, nostalgic, and emotionally grounded while still maintaining cinematic depth and texture. I also used the project to further refine my editing workflow, pacing, and sound design approach, allowing the narration and visuals to breathe naturally together.
More than anything, this project was an opportunity to create something honest and personal on a smaller scale by focusing purely on emotion and atmosphere.
